We’re always launching something new in Houston! Dad jokes aside, CERAweek 2024 is wrapping up, and with that, we wanted to add to the conversation and discuss what it means to us as Houston solar installers to see one of the country’s biggest energy/innovation conferences hosted in our city.
For those unfamiliar with the convention, CERAWeek (Cambridge Energy Research Associates Week), is an annual energy conference Houston hosts. In regards to energy, it’s one of the largest gatherings of energy industry leaders, experts, and policymakers worldwide. CERAweek is not a green/renewables-only conference, as it covers many energy-related topics and market sectors, including oil, natural gas, renewables, emerging tech, and geopolitics.
Above all else, CERAWeek is a platform for discussions. It allows different voices across sectors of the energy and tech industries to share ideas and insights, hopefully yielding some progress that will benefit people nationwide.
The overarching theme across panels, discussions, and presentations for 2024 was the need for the energy transition away from fossil fuels (not a new topic), but the angle to debate is how it can be done fairly, equitably, and without jeopardizing economies all over the world. What are the best practices for transitioning countries and energy suppliers from non-renewable sources to renewable ones without suffering financial losses, albeit still meeting the requirements to combat climate change and all the environmental disasters that come with it? No easy task, right?
We all know the stakes are high, but we couldn’t be more proud of our city serving as the beacon of what can be “the energy transition capital of the world.” Nothing gets done without first recognizing the challenges and circumstances and then meeting to discuss the best paths forward to make the changes needed.
Isn’t it great how Houston, a city renowned for its oil industry and perhaps considered one of the oil capitals of the world, can be the launching point for renewable energy technologies, exemplifying how the world can transition off fossil fuels!? The universe works in unexpected and beautiful ways.
